Welcome & Opening Address by Organising Committee

9.15am - 9.30am

A quick welcome from your compare Tony Lake, who will outline some of the talks that lie ahead over the 2-day symposium. This will be followed by an opening address from the event organising committee.

Setting the Scene - The Sand Story

9.30am - 9.50am

Kiran Pereira, founder of SandStories.org will set the scene for the day by outlining the urgent need to manage the consumption of sand as a resource, and what alternatives are available to the market.

Keynote Address - Legislation

9.50am - 10.30am

Our keynote discussion will look at legislation, examining the current legislation in relation to common practice and circular economy aspirations.

Speaker:

Keynote -  Vincent Basuyau, Policy Officer at the European Commission.

Vincent will be discussing the European Agenda for Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling and what you need to consider when working towards a circular economy.

This keynote address will be followed by a discussion on legislation.

Topic 1: Barriers to Re-Use

10.45am - 11.40am

In this series of talks, attendees will find out some of the common barriers and challenges to the re-use of C&D waste in the construction sector. Our speakers will explore the social, economic and scientific reasons why we still find it difficult to reuse a secondary waste material.

Break - Tea & Coffee

A short break to allow attendees to get some refreshments. This will also provide another networking opportunity, and a chance to discuss the insights shared in the legislation talks.

Topic 2: Applications & Opportunities

12 noon - 1.30pm

This series of talks will look at some of the opportunities and benefits for companies in considering to process or use recovered re-usable construction and demolition waste materials. Our speakers will investigate the real opportunities that exist for recovered CDW in premium applications.

Topic 3: The Urban Construction Challenge

Our speakers will discuss the challenges facing global urbanisation and the increasingly difficult task of securing the construction of raw materials where they are needed.

Topic 4: Advanced Recycling Models

Our speakers will look at the development and use of innovative recycling techniques which increase the Circular Economy in the Construction Industry.

  • 3.50pm - 4.10pm: Sven Henrik Norman, Mapei - Solutions for Returned Concrete and Non-Usable Fines from C&D Waste Processing

Closing Address

The end of the first day of the symposium will see the opportunity for attendees to unwind at a drinks reception and discuss some of the key themes from the day's talks.

Drinks Reception and Dinner

7.00pm

The evening meal takes place in the Newbury Suite at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Heathrow. Delegates who have purchased a ticket that includes an evening meal are asked to meet at 7.00pm for a drinks reception, before taking your seat in the dining room at 7.30pm.

this is another opportunity to continue your discussions around C&D waste materials management and the solutions and opportunities that exist. This 3-course meal will bring a busy first day to a close. Complimentary wine is provided.

Attendees will not need to register for the second day as your ticket registers you for both days at the event. If you are only planning on visiting for day 2, please get in touch to let us know.

Topic 5: Business Model Development

9.00am - 10.10am

The 'green' agenda... does it all make financial sense?

The final series of talks will look at how you can begin to develop a business model for C&D waste recycling. Our speakers will share their own experiences in transforming their business by developing a new business model focusing on the use of C&D waste material.

Speakers:

  • 9.00am - 9.30am: Presentation of a UK business model for the CDW circular economy
  • 9.30am - 9.50am: Eirik Wraal, AF Gruppen - The Circular Economy Business Model
  • 9.50am - 10.10am: Discussion

This session will be followed by a field trip to The Sheehan Group site in Oxford to see the Circular Economy in motion. Discover how Sheehan's have transformed their business through the introduction of an advanced construction and demolition waste recycling system. 

Depart for Sheehan's

10.30am

Transfer from the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Heathrow to Sheehan's C&D Waste Recycling Plant in Oxford.

Two buses will depart with delegates allocated a bus on the day. The tour will have two sections to it, allowing delegates to see the C&D waste recycling plant in action, and also witnessing the processed material being batched into a re-sellable product.

Site Visit to Sheehan's C&D Waste Recycling Plant

11.30am - 3.30pm

The symposium will finish with a site visit to Sheehan's C&D Waste Recycling Plant in Oxford. Attendees will be transported directly from the hotel and taken on a Circular Economy journey as they discover the process in recycling the construction and demolition waste, before seeing how Sheehan's currently re-use this material to create a range of certified sand and aggregates material, which is being used in concrete products for the construction industry. 

Lunch will be provided for attendees visiting the Sheehan site on day two.

Depart for Hotel

4.00pm

Delegates will depart for the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Heathrow at 4.00pm, arriving back to the hotel between 5.500pm and 5.30pm.
