Registration starts from 8.00am and refreshments will be provided. This period will give you the opportunity to network with attendees and also meet the speakers.

Opening Address by Organisers

9.45am

A quick welcome from the organising committee who will outline some of the talks that lie ahead over the 2-day symposium.

Topic 1: Legislation

10.00am - 11.00am

The first topic of day one is legislation where our speakers examine the current legislation in relation to common practice and circular economy aspirations.

Speakers:

Keynote -  Vincent Basuyau, Policy Officer at the European Commission.

Vincent will be joined by other industry experts to discuss policies and legislation around waste recycling, and what you need to consider when working towards a circular economy.

Break - Tea & Coffee

11.00am - 11.30am

A short break to allow attendees to get some refreshments. This will also provide another networking opportunity, and a chance to discuss the insights shared in the legislation talks.

Topic 2: Barriers to Re-Use

11.30am - 12.30pm

In this series of talks, attendees will find out some of the common barriers and challenges to the re-use of C&D waste in the construction sector. Our speakers will explore the social, economic and scientific reasons why we still find it difficult to reuse a secondary waste material.

12.30pm - 2.00pm

Lunch is included in your ticket, so take the time to relax with some lunch and enjoy another opportunity to network with fellow attendees.

Topic 3: Opportunities for Recovered Re-Usable Materials

2.00pm - 3.30pm

This series of talks will look at some of the opportunities and benefits for companies in considering to process or use recovered C&D waste materials. Our speakers will investigate the real opportunities that exist for recovered CDW in premium applications.

Speakers:

  • Dr Christian Engelsen, Sintef - Identifying through research, where the real opportunities exist
  • Professor Marios Soutsos, Queens University, Belfast - Sustainable concrete construction

Topic 4: The Urban Construction Challenge

3.30pm - 5.00pm

Day one will finish with some talks that look at some of the main challenges that are faced in the urban construction sector. Our speakers will discuss the challenges facing global urbanisation and the increasingly difficult task of securing the construction of raw materials where they are needed.

Close & Drinks Reception

5.00pm

The end of the first day of the symposium will see the opportunity for attendees to unwind at a drinks reception and discuss some of the key themes from the day's talks.

Networking Dinner @ Radisson Blu Edwardian

7.30pm

Another opportunity to continue your discussions around C&D waste materials management at our evening networking meal. This 3-course meal will bring a busy first day to a close. Complimentary wine provided.

Attendees will not need to register for the second day as your ticket registers you for both days at the event. If you are only planning on visiting for day 2, please get in touch to let us know.

Topic 1: Advanced Recycling Models

9.30am - 10.45am

The talks for day two will begin with a focus on some of the advanced recycling models that are currently being used to help divert CDW materials from landfill. Our speakers will look at the development and use of innovative recycling techniques which increase the Circular Economy in the Construction Industry.

  • Eunan Kelly, CDE Global - Realising value from construction and demolition waste.

Break - Tea & Coffee

10.45am - 11.00am

A short tea and coffee break before the second set of talks begin.

Topic 2: Business Model Development

11.00am - 12noon

The final series of talks will look at how you can begin to develop a business model for C&D waste recycling. Our speakers will share their own experiences in transforming their business by developing a new business model focusing on the use of C&D waste material.

  • Tara Sheehan, The Sheehan Group - The circular economy business model.

This session will be followed by a field trip to The Sheehan Group site in Oxford to see the Circular Economy in motion. Discover how Sheehan's have transformed their business through the introduction of an advanced construction and demolition waste recycling system. 

Break - Lunch

12noon - 1.30pm

A break for lunch before attendees get ready to depart for the day two site visit to Sheehans C&D Waste Recycling plant in Oxford.

Site Visit to Sheehans C&D Waste Recycling Plant

The symposium will finish with a site visit to Sheehans C&D Waste Recycling Plant in Oxford. Attendees will be transported directly from the hotel and taken on a Circular Economy journey as they discover the processing in recycling the construction and demolition waste, before seeing how Sheehans currently re-use this material to create a range of certified sand and aggregates material, which are being used in concrete products for the construction industry. 

Return to Hotel

7.00pm

Attendees will return to the Radisson Blu Edwardian at 7.00pm on Wednesday 19th September, following the site visit to Sheehans.
